Are you a huge fan of Steampunk? If you are then you'll pry be interested to know that you can create your own Steampunk items without a huge amount of hassle.

For these projects, regular everyday items such as pieces of leather, metal components, electrical pieces can be combined to create different types of accessories, clothing, vehicles, electronics, and many other things. Throw in some metallic paint and you'll be amazed at what you can create. Collect all these things before starting your steampunk project. Once you are ready with all the required pieces, try the following the examples below for some inspiration on what you want to craft.

1. Steampunk Gaming Controllers

Gaming controllers have long been modified for ages. One of the best mods for sure though is to give it a Steampunk look. This is a fairly simple DIY project for beginners but it can be as intense and complicated as you want it to be. To start, applying a brass or copper paint is a super easy way to apply some awesome style. But if you want to get more complicated, feel free to add some gears or cogs to really bring the look together. Guaranteed to give a fantastic Steampunk vibe to any controller.

2. Steampunk Binoculars

This is another cool project which can be done fairly easily. You can take a standard pear of black binoculars and give it a unique style Steampunk style. Applying some brass or copper paint across the entire pair or just in places for a more subtle look is a great way to start. But you can build on this look further by gluing on Steampunk gears and leather straps. Follow your instinct and decorate as you wish. Once you are done, you'll be able to survey and explore new places in style. This is easy to follow and you will have enough room to use your creativity to get a proper design.

3. Steampunk Guitars

Do you like guitars? Want to add some awesome Steampunk style to your own guitar? Keep reading if the answer is yes. The process can be as simple or in depth as you want. If you want to keep it simple, applying some brass or copper metallic paint can be an easy way to give it a nice Steampunk vibe. Then adding some Steampunk gears and cogs is another easy way to add a unique Steampunk look. If you want to get more complicated like the images above, you can even add some brass dials and metal tubing to your guitar. Listen to some music in style ;)

4. Steampunk Guns

Who doesn't like some good old fashioned Steampunk weaponry? This one's actually pretty easy. You can start off by picking up any old dart gun or water gun. Then, all you need to do is apply some metallic paint to it. In the above example you'll see the Nerf gun was painted with a variety of metallic paints, chrome, brass, bronze, and steel. And that's pretty much it. Luckily, most dart guns and water guns already fit the shape of the Steampunk aesthetic fairly well so you don't need to go crazy. But if you want to go the extra mile, adding brass/bronze colored springs and metal pipes in the right places can look great. Finally, as always, gluing on some gears is always a great addition.

5. Steampunk Art

Art lovers can rejoice because of how easy it is to create an authentic piece of Steampunk art. In the two example pieces above, you can see that each piece of art, the Star Wars droid R2-D2, and a Steampunk styled mechanical spider, are crafted from everyday metal components.

The R2-D2 is crafted from steel metal pieces, bolts, nuts, screws and chains. Finally it was molded together to form the shape of this particular droid. You can either solder on the pieces to each other or simply use some super glue to keep everything together.

In the case of the mechanical spider, all you really need here are some steel gears and springs of various sizes. The body of the spider is made from various springs and gears and the legs are made from brass springs of all sizes. Again, the hard part here is molding the body together to form the correct shape.

But following the above formula, it's easy to craft Steampunk styled art of anything you come across in life. Be sure to give it a try!

As you can see, these Do It Yourself Steampunk projects aren't actually that intimidating. With a little planning and effort, you can create some awesome looking pieces of art. For more Steampunk inspirations, be sure to check out 7 Awesome Examples Of Steampunk Art And Media.
